OCCUPATIONAL HAZARD

Logline:
When unstable crystals begin to corrupt their surroundings, two bickering scientists race to contain these anomalies before the chaos spreads.

About:
Occupational Hazard is a 3 min short drama that mixes live action photography with visual effects.

Project Overview:
Occupational Hazard is a fast-paced live-action/VFX short film created at the UTS Animal Logic Academy. Inspired by the cinematography of Severance there is a darkness and mystery to what is happening in the film.

Cinematography:
The cinematography embraces longer lenses to flatten out the images, so they have lots of leading lines and angles without distortion, giving the shots more symmetry. We also used dutch tilts to accentuate the chaos created by the broken crystals and show how out of balance the world of Occupational Hazard is. Colour is limited to the main characters suits and the malfunctioning crystals, the rest of the world is grey and reminiscent of a soviet constructivist landscape.

Technology:
The film combines Lidar, Gaussian Splatts and Mocap to create intricate layers of animation over live action plates.
